What is C-TPAT?

U.S. Customs has engaged the assistance of the trade community to assist in the war against terrorism. C-TPAT is a joint government-business partnership where companies agree to improve the security in their supply chain in return for "fast lane" border crossings and other important incentives". www.customs.gov

What does C-TPAT Require?

ICSC has updated all of its offerings to assist our clients in meeting the new C-TPAT Importer Requirements dated March 25, 2005.

Application
The first step of C-TPAT is to review and harden your supply chain security program to ensure it meets the C-TPAT requirements. Once this is completed, you complete an on-line application form. The ICSC has partnered with Pinkerton to provide discounted rates for companies that prefer to have an experienced supply chain security consultant assist them with the C-TPAT application process.  This includes conducting independent or self-assessments of your facilities and supplier facilities, updating your policies and procedures, and completing your C-TPAT application.

Education Solutions
The ICSC offers several options to assist you in meeting the new C-TPAT education requirements. These include eLearning courses, CD's, VHS and classroom training.
Awareness and Application "Roadmap"
This eLearning program provides a comprehensive understanding of the requirements and benefits of C-TPAT, as well as a detailed "Roadmap" for companies choosing to apply themselves.
C-TPAT Employee Awareness

This course provides the required C-TPAT awareness training for importers, warehouses, Port Terminal Operators, and foreign manufacturers as prescribed by US Customs and Border Protection. It provides and overview of C-TPAT, its importance to your organization and describes the employees responsibilities and discusses document fraud and internal conspiracies as required by the C-TPAT guidelines. It is available in an eLearning, VHS and CD and Classroom. The VHS/CD version provides the most cost effective method to train large numbers of employees.

C-TPAT Compliance Assessments

C-TPAT requires importers to validate their supplier's compliance with the C-TPAT requirements based on risk and to have a documented procedure to accomplish this. The ICSC can assist you in preparing a C-TPAT compliance assessment strategy. Conducting on-site C-TPAT compliance assessments can be expensive. Also, since many foreign manufacturers produce goods for more than one U.S. importer, foreign manufacturers will be subjected to multiple C-TPAT compliance assessments. The ICSC in conjunction with Pinkerton, has devised a cost-effective C-TPAT compliance assessment methodology so foreign manufacturers can be assessed only once. Manufacturers' U.S. customers can obtain the assessment results from the ICSC for a nominal fee. The foreign manufacturer requests and pays for the assessment, which will be conducted by Pinkerton.
